Glucose meters with Bluetooth

Glucose meters with Bluetooth

More and more manufacturers are focusing on glucose meters with Bluetooth functionality. Not surprising of course, because results can be shared with apps on the smartphone using Bluetooth. Moreover, measurements can also easily be shared with practitioners in this way. For young people with diabetes, parents can watch when results can be shared. Bluetooth therefore has quite a few advantages.

What is Bluetooth?

Bluetooth allows devices to be connected wirelessly within a short distance. Bluetooth is an alternative to the old-fashioned data cable. This requires a device to be connected to the computer with a cable. With Bluetooth this is no longer necessary. Moreover, Bluetooth is a perfect way to connect to the smartphone. Bluetooth only works at short distances. Assume a maximum of 10 meters.

Bluetooth creates a small network. One device transmits and the other device receives. To use Bluetooth, the functionality must be turned on. This is very easy on a smartphone. When Bluetooth is on, other devices that also have Bluetooth on can be automatically recognized.

Measure glucose

A glucose meter with Bluetooth works the same as a 'regular' glucose meter. Test strips are simply inserted into the meter and the result can be read a few seconds later. With a regular meter it ends there. With a glucose meter with Bluetooth, it really only starts then.

If you turn on Bluetooth on both your glucose meter and your phone, a network is created. Results can then be easily exported. By transferring results to the smartphone, a new world actually opens up. With the right app, measurements can be displayed graphically over time. Monitoring becomes so much easier. Almost all manufacturers of diabetes aids have their own apps marketed (free) with which results can be monitored.

In addition to monitoring results yourself, measurements can of course also be shared. So the work also becomes a lot easier for practitioners as soon as a meter has Bluetooth.

On diabetesmagazijn.nl you can filter glucose meters by Bluetooth. Check 'Bluetooth' to clearly display all meters with Bluetooth.

    Dear,

I have Accu – Chek and the description mentions 'control fluid'. However, I don't see this in your range. Can I still order this?

    1. diabetesmagazijn.nl

Dear Chris, control solution is a difficult story. The fluid is often more expensive than a new meter. Our purchasing is so high that we would never sell the liquid. Especially if 2 control solutions are needed (high and low). We now only have 2 brands, these prices are reasonable. Unfortunately, the prices for Accu-Chek are too high. Unfortunately, manufacturers do not have any focus on control solution.

Dear Ina, this blog is about meters with Bluetooth that allow you to read results on an app. Exporting measurements to the PC works in a different way. Often with special software and a cable. And not many manufacturers support this (yet).

  2. Can I also reset my Accu Chek via the PC? and how if possible. because mine keeps refusing to do it.

Dear Chris, this depends on the type of Accu-Chek meter. Unfortunately, connecting to the PC is often not that easy, because a lot of software appears to be out of date.
