Accu-Chek discontinues the Performa

Accu-Chek discontinues the Performa

Roche will discontinue the Accu-Chek Performa product line. The very popular glucose meter will no longer be available in the short term. Pharmacies, suppliers and wholesalers can no longer order the meter. We will also no longer be able to supply Performa meters in a relatively short time. So while supplies last. The comics are expected to continue to be produced for another 5 years. For the time being, the test strips can still be used.

Accu-Chek is betting on the Instant glucose meter, this is a cheaper successor. In addition, the Instant has Bluetooth and can therefore be linked to the MySugr app. The Instant meter is more accurate, easier to handle, and just like the Performa, it is very easy to use. This meter can be requested free of charge for existing Performa customers via the Accu-Chek website.

Why stop?

The Performa meter is not the first meter to disappear, Accu-Chek previously discontinued the Aviva meter. Also Onetouch withdrew completely from the Netherlands. More and more manufacturers are seeing margins shrink due to declining reimbursements from insurers. The increasingly popular sensors are also putting pressure on the market. Then there are even stricter regulations, which means that some manufacturers simply choose to discontinue a certain product.

On diabetesmagazijn.nl we see a completely different development. Many type 2 patients do not use insulin and are therefore not reimbursed for their aids. This group does not use sensors, and will not use this technology (with current prices). These people simply measure daily or a few times a week by pricking and using a strip. Brands like Diatesse en CareSens profit at the expense of the big brands.

Not available anymore

As of September 2021, the Performa is no longer available.

  1. It is special that I will now receive a basic set of the Performa on October 20, 2021.
Are the lancets and test strips compatible with the instant glucose meter and/or the mobile?

      Dear P. Iedema,

Who sent you this set? The strips are not compatible with any other meter. The lancets (Softclix) do fit on the pen that comes with the Instant meter.

Good morning, I have a battery check Performa. It gives an error message E9 every time. I understand this one is going out. Is it possible to have this device delivered so that we can use up our test strip stock and then switch to a new one? Your reaction please.

      Dear Marjan,

Unfortunately, we can no longer supply this device. The product has been sold out for months now.
You may still be able to find the meter online. But often insane prices are charged.
Then a new meter + test strips is often cheaper.
